Irrespective of the fact that GMB's victory is greatly attributable to the electorates clamour for change, there are still a couple of subtle lessons to be learnt from his emergence as the Federal Republic of Nigeria's president elect. These lessons may go a long way in helping to deal with certain disappointments, low morale and times of despair in life
Lesson 1
God's time is the best
Who would have thought that the same electorates that did not consider him re-worthy (I am sure you know what I mean) of the post of the first man in the FRN will be the same ones giving him unfettered support during the just concluded presidential elections. Of course I do agree that the support was not 100percent but clearly the level of support this time was greater than the previous times when he had contested for the post. This is because when God says the time is nigh, easy lies the way. You will recall that GMB did not even have to do as much as he had done in the past. Supporters arose, fought and campaigned for him. The comments on social media during the certificate and his non appearance for interviews says it all.
Lesson 2Patience is really a virtue
I may actually liken this lesson to the popular phrase - when there is life, there is hope. How many people are actually aware that it has taken GMB 12years to attain t.his ambition of re-becoming -(there I go again) a president elect and invariably the democratic president of the FRN. Let's us try to imagine how he would have felt on those 3 previous occasions, his mood, his acceptance of defeat for 12 years ( that should be about 4,380 days of 24hours each...I think you can imagine the dejection - if any) the purported feeling of rejection, the necessary pep talks that may have spur him to re-contest after another four years, the expectations etc. yes, he did falter somewhere along the way- after all he is human but imagine how easy the road would have been if some of those mistakes weren't made? Etc. Nonetheless, it is no gainsaying that patience is a virtue!
Lesson 3
Be willing to accept responsibility for your mistakes
This may not augur well with a lot of people as I totally understand that accepting one's error or misgivings does not totally erase the effect of whatever your actions may have caused others. But I will still say that accepting one's mistakes has a way of dousing the effect of one's actions. And propels you to chase your dreams without interference of the constant guilt trip.
Lesson 4
Do not give up on that dream of yours
We really shouldn't over-flog this particular point as the lesson is inherent in the other lessons of this write up. Needless to say however, that little dream of yours that seems to be stuck at a particular point, month after months, year in year out... I guess we can easily say if Buhari can do it in 12 years, maybe you have not even scratched the surface. Nevertherless, giving up should not be an option. Do not despair and hold on tight to your dreams.
Lesson 5
Have faith in God
All eyes may seem to be on GMB but only a few of us are excited about the elevation of the VP elect in person of Professor Osinbajo. I will not claim to know what his goals in life were or whether he initially had this type of political ambition. But I will liken him to David in the bible. Here is someone who God seems to have chosen because to my mind, he was clearly in his comfort zone and singled out to be the running mate for GMB. Who knows what his current expectations from life was? Was it lower or higher than what he has gotten???
So there you have it, a couple of lessons from GMB's emergence as the president elect of the FRN. Whatever it is and no matter how long it has taken, do not give up.
