Lessons from my 2 year old daughter - Part 1

I remember when I was pregnant with our daughter, I was so ill for the first 3 months that I wondered why one has to suffer so much to nurture an embryo/foetus  to a baby. Anyways story for another day.....the day of birth was much more interesting, it took the nurse telling me to feed my baby to make it sink that I was now a mum. While she laid in the baby cot, I was taking sneak peeks at her partly because when my mum had my last sister, she instructed us not to touch the baby in the cot but rush to call her if there was as little as a whimp. Trust me to leave my baby in the cot, waiting for my mum to tell me whether I can touch her or not......just kidding.........

As she grew daily, I thanked God for the beautiful gift and recently realized that I was no longer the carefree young lady because I have a tiny tod looking up to me for nourishment and general living needs. Of course, the one that God has given me the ability to provide. Here are some of the lessons that I have learnt from her so far?

BE EXEMPLARY

Yea right....funny how a little girl does everything that her mum does. It actually hits me a couple of times that what this young girl will become in future depends for now on what we expose her to, the type of training that we give her etc. Ranging from making up, to painting my nails, typing on the computer and wearing high heels...our daughter thinks that if mommy can do it, then it is good. I laugh so hard sometimes when she wears my shoes but I don't forget the lesson to be learnt from it which is the fact that my every move is being watched and imbibed by her.

SACRIFICE

For those of us that love to drink 'ijebu garri' and cold water, remember how much you wait for that part when the garri is finished and you are left with the the cold water, highly saturated with the garri flavor. The joy of drinking that saturated garri water is unexplainable. Well, I haven't started sharing my bowl of Garri with her yet, but we share a bowl of cereal and you already have an idea of what I am driving at. So on a fateful day, I get to the peak of eating my cereal and my little daughter taps me with her big round eyes like her dad's....in her little French accent says 'Maman....ça' meaning 'mommy that'.....I was like no way......this is the best part dear. On that fateful day, we both fought for the bowl of cereal #covers face# but subsequently I have come to realize that she is a part of me, who probably likes the same things that I like and I have learnt to call unto her when I drink my bowl of cereal to drink the saturated milk....the look of the gratitude on her face tells me she knows I am making a sacrifice.

ANOTHER MEANING OF COMPANIONSHIP

Dont worry, this is different from the type I share with her dad.....hehehehehehehehe
Anyways, for those that know me wella, I refer to our daughter as my little bodyguard. Because anywhere you see me, she is most likely gonna be there. One day, I was pondering and wondering if our little girl even realises that I take her everywhere with me.
My answer was not far fetched. I went shopping with a friend and after hours of shopping with a 2 year old without a push chair I was fagged out. So she decided to help me carry her for a while. Well because I was so tired, they were moving faster than I was. The next thing, I heard my daughter call her attention that they should wait for me, she did not cry for me to carry her but that they should not leave without me. I was so happy....

To be continued.....

  2. Yes, she loves her painted nails and little missus actually likes to give orders!!!! I love her esp when she shouts "Ma-man", articulating the syllables the more she is ignored. She is actually fun to watch and I like to annoy her sometimes, so that she can give me a stern look :D

  3. Ammy, the little tym i spent with ur baby was when she came to stay with ur mum in Ib. And to tell u the truth, i didnt spend more than an hour with them, but i could see the hyperactive nature of u in her. I was overwhelmed, and couldn't help staring at her. I was full of smiles thruout my stay. Really, her name depicts what and who she is. A joy to behold. Sweetheart, may God continue to bless u and ur hubby to be able to take care of this little angel. Miss u so much, and wish i can always get an ample tym to spend with her. 'tola.
