I did not study computer science in school neither am I technologically savvy. I am just an average phone user who expects to get the best from her gadgets. I barely read phone manuals as I love to learn by doing, but of course, I do refer to the manual when I get stuck...especially with apple products....oh how I love my apple products....but erm erm....ok.
A friend of mine recently complained that Nigerian ladies seem to have turned blackberry phones into a fashion statement. I am not sure whether to agree with her or not, but if truth be told, an average, upstanding middle class lady in Nigeria desires to own the latest phone in town, once the bridge of affordability has been crossed. I am not sure if everyone agrees with me, but I think we need a little bit of excitement in our lives. I personally love looking forward to events or any activity out of the ordinary. Who would blame me, imagine spending hours in traffic gridlocks with nothing but your own thoughts flowing through your mind. So maybe we just love the thrill of having something new and different...I mean we only get about a few of that in life anyways as other people and things in our lives are somewhat permanent.
Enough of the digressions - please see the annoying differences that I have noted.
I cannot crop pictures
I remember changing from my blackberry curve to a blackberry touch and I must state that the change was seamless. I was using the same blackberry technology but with advanced features. I still do not understand why I cannot crop pictures on the Z10. Naturally, you should add to the existing features and not take away from it.
Blackberry group’s issues
A lot of things are wrong with the BB Groups. You cannot delete pictures in the group and as of now, all my other group members are in a different time zone. Thus, my posts cannot be viewed real time in the groups. Apart from this, the 'T' and 'R' shortcuts that takes you to the top and bottom of the chat page respectively, seem to be missing in this model. They do not work in the personal chats either.
Incessant disappearance of the BBM app
My BBM app keeps disappearing and I do not understand why. It is really getting at me and I am no longer feeling the whole BBM thingy! On every occasion, its like one is just buying a new BB, you loose some contacts, groups and a number of contacts cannot even chat with you unless you delete and re-invite them.
Display of Time zone/Location
I am not quite happy with the fact that I need to know each country’s flag colors to be able to decipher a particular contact's location. Well I did pay attention to my geography lectures but it’s supposed to be a SMARTPHONE!!!!
Broadcasting messages
With the other BB models, you can select a particular contact group and broadcast messages to this selected group. This doesn’t seem to be possible with the BBZ10.
Sending pictures to contacts/navigating the pictures folder
This process was a lot smarter on my other BB models than my BBZ10. I could easily access my media card and choose the picture I wanted to share or upload as my display picture. The process is somewhat painstaking on the Z10.
Calendars and integration with Facebook app
Calendars and integration with Facebook app
On my old blackberry model, my facebook friends birthday's was synced with my blackberry calendar and I was prompted on their birthday dates to drop a message on their facebook wall. This integration seems unavailable on my z10. Although I get a prompt on their birthday, I am unable to auto post on their FB wall.
Don't get me wrong however, I totally love the BBZ10 and I hope these issues can be tackled with the latest software update, nevertheless it makes a good topic for my blog.
