Why worry?

I am finally a testimony to the fact that it does not pay to worry over things that you have no control over. Things find a way of sorting themselves!!!!! hehehehehehehe  I have been worried over a couple of stuffs for the past days that it has messed up my thinking process, eating habits and even my sleeping pattern.

Why do we even worry about stuffs sef? I mean I have been so worried that I couldn't blog, I had stuffs to write but just could not bring my self to write anything, so distracted that I could not get much done. Apart from the initial worry, I was worried that I had so many things to do, yet did not do much of anything and unfortunately, time does not wait for me....and I was also worried that I was worried!

France rallies to beat United States in men's 4x100 swim relay

France beat the United States in the men's 4x100-meter swimming relay on Sunday, with Michael Phelps and the United States taking a silver medal. The medal is the 17th for Phelps, and puts him one behind Larisa Latynina, a Soviet gymnast who earned nine golds, five silvers and four bronzes between 1956 and 1964. The U.S. held the lead for three of the four legs, but Yannick Agnel caught Ryan Lochte just after the turn and pulled away at the end. France won in 3:09.93, with the 20-year-old Agnel swimming the last leg in 46.74. The U.S. finished in 3:10.38 ahead of Russia (3:11.41) and Australia (3:11.63). It was a bit of payback for the French who lost in similar style in 2008.
Lochte will have a chance for personal revenge during Monday's 200-meter freestyle final.
One of the Games' showcase teams, the U.S. men's basketball squad, easily won its first game, beating France 98-71.
Kevin Durant led the United States, made up of NBA all-stars and the college player of the year, with 22 points. Kevin Love scored 14 points and Kobe Bryant had 10 for the U.S., which next plays Tunisia on Tuesday."We still have a lot of work to do, but that's the beauty of it all," Durant said. "We're all coming together in such a short time. We're having fun playing. Guys don't worry about points, rebounds, assists; we just want to play to win." Coach Mike Krzyzewski was pleased with his team's effort. "I thought we did a good job defensively," he said. "We share the ball. We assisted on 27 of our 31 buckets and we rebounded the ball very well."

Fashola Clears street traders at Computer Village Lagos

The governor of Lagos State, yesterday morning cleared the famous Computer village in Ikeja yesterday with the "kai" and security forces.

The Computer village is the largest IT market in Africa. You can find a wide array of branded computers and cloned PCs here.  Popular brands include Compaq, HP, Dell, Toshiba, Acer, and several others.

This Lagos computer market is also host to a multitude of computer accessories, digital cameras and camera accessories, and mobile phones and accessories.

Any visitor to Computer Village, in search of any brands of phones, memory cards, laptops, and other gadget will know without asking that he has reached the village by the efforts of the street traders to sell their wares to the visitor.

However, some of the street traders also rob the visitors of their personal belongings which is why Lagosians have been clamoring for the sanitation of the market. Although, there are concerns about what will be a source of livelihood to the street traders, some  Lagosians are relieved that the street traders have been cleared from the market.

Hyundai recalls more than 220,000 vehicles for potential air bags flaws

Hyundai is recalling more than 220,000 Santa Fe SUVs and Sonata sedans because of potential problems with their air bags.
The recall affects almost 200,000 SUVs from the 2007-2009 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
These vehicles' front passenger airbags may not deploy in the event of a crash because of a possible problem with their occupant classification system, which gauges the size of a passenger and based on that whether an air bag should be deployed.
The system may need to be recalibrated to detect to "small statured adults," the federal safety agency said.
The company is also recalling more than 22,000 sedans from the 2012-2013 model years, according to the administration. These cars' curtain side airbags may inflate for no apparent reason because of a manufacturing error.
Hyundai dealers are expected to notify owners and replace the curtain side airbags free of charge, the NHTSA said. Dealers will also update the classification software for free in the affected SUVs.

Man recovers stolen car after 42 years

Texas man whose prized sports car was stolen 42 years ago recovered the vehicle in California after spotting it on eBay, authorities said Sunday.

Robert Russell told the Los Angeles County sheriff's officials that he had never given up searching for the 1967 Austin-Healey after it was stolen from his Philadelphia home in 1970.

The 66-year-old retired sales manager from Southlake told the Dallas Morning News he paid a friend $3000 for the car. It had sentimental value to him because it was stolen the morning after he took his future wife out on their second date.

Russell said he spent years surfing the Internet looking for the car and didn't have much hope of finding it. "The fact that the car still exists is improbable," he said. "It could have been junked or wrecked."

OMG!! Man hides cash in oven; wife baked it by accident

The Merrylands father-of-two, who did not want to be identified out of embarrassment, sold his beloved Toyota Supra sports car for $15,000 on Saturday afternoon and stashed the wads of notes in his kitchen oven.

He said he believed the cash would be safe in the oven because his wife never used it.

It was a decision he regretted yesterday after his wife struggled to tell him the money had literally gone up in smoke.

She had turned on the oven to pre-heat some chicken nuggets for their two girls and inadvertently cooked the cash.

Two headed piglet born in Russia

The mutant animal came to light in one of the farms of the Bryansk region. The piglet had two heads, two snouts and two pairs of eyes. Other piglets in the brood had no deformities.
Officials with the regional Department of Veterinary Medicine said that two-headed pigs appear in other countries as well. This is not an unusual phenomenon anymore. Moreover, such animals can live and grow. However, the two-headed piglet that was born in the Bryansk region died a few days after birth, Bryansk.ru said. As for his brothers and sisters, they are just fine.
Modern science does not have the answer to the causes of such mutations. It was only established that they occur during late stages of pregnancy.

Beauty Secrets of some beautiful women....

Superstars always look stunning in public. What are the secrets of their beauty? Find some below!

The beautiful diva of the 1950s, Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) was sure that gentlemen loved blonds and, being brown-haired, always dyed her hair with hydrogen peroxide. It was said that Marilyn purposefully made her heels shorter to make her step sexier. She said that Chanel #5 was the only thing she would wear being in bed with a man.

Roman historian Plutarch wrote that "the beauty and complaisance of Egyptian Queen Cleopatra (lived in 69-30 B.C.) captivated Julius Caesar." Later, Marcus Antonius was also charmed with her beauty. Cleopatra regularly took a bath with warm jennet milk that made her skin soft and matt. Today, women can take a bath with one liter of cow milk to have nice skin.

Brigitte Bardot (born in 1934), who is sometimes called BB or Bebe, was a sex symbol of an entire epoch. People knew her by wasp-like waist, sexy lips and coiffure that was later called "a la Bardot." Everyday 10-minute physical exercises helped Bardot looked wonderful. The actress applied light lipstick on her sexy lips and finished the makeup slightly touching the lips with vaseline.

Twitter suffers second outage in five weeks!!

According to Al ja zeera, a data centre glitch brought down Twitter for roughly 2 hours on Thursday, as the micro-blogging service suffered its second widespread outage in 5 weeks and another blow to its reputation and reliability.
"I wish I could say that today's outage could be explained by the Olympics or even a cascading bug," said vice president of engineering Mazen Rawashdeh in a blog post after service resumed.
"Instead, it was due to this infrastructural double-whammy. We are investing aggressively in our systems to avoid this situation in the future."
On Thursday, users trying to log on to its website were greeted only by an incomplete error message: "Twitter is currently down for. We expect to be back in."
Twitter - infamous for its "fail whale" outage icon in its early years showing a whale held up by a flock of birds - last went dark for several hours on June 21.

Olympics 2012 to begin, officially today!

One of the biggest secrets in London will finally be revealed today: what will happen at the opening ceremony for the Summer Olympic Games.
Tonight billons will finally get to see the extravaganza created by Danny Boyle, best known for the Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionare.
Few specifics have been released about the three-hour show. A big feat taking into account that thousands of performers and technicians are involved and there have been two dress rehearsals this week.

A twitter hashtag, #savethesurprise, has been started by Olympic organizers to help keep details private.
But some aspects of the show have leaked out. The show's opening scene is dubbed "Green and Pleasant," after a line from poet William Blake's Jerusalem and will showcase an idyllic view of a British countryside.
The elaborate set will comprise rolling hills, fields and rivers, complete with picnicking families, sport being played on a village green and real farmyard animals.
Not many names of the celebrities that will be part of the ceremony have been released. But star footballer David Beckham has said he has a role in the spectacle.
It will begin at 9 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) with the tolling of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, cast by the nearby Whitechapel Foundry.

Stay tuned!

Amazing: Microsoft Records First Quarterly Loss Ever!

Microsoft has posted its first ever loss since the company went public in 1986 (26 years ago). The historic news came on Thursday, after the company announced that it was writing off almost the entire value of an online advertising service (aQuantive) it bought five years ago – that is about $6.2billion. The aQuantive setback is unlikely to faze investors, who usually focus on what lies ahead for a company instead of dwelling on past mistakes.

This meant that Microsoft lost nearly $500million (precisely $492 million) in the second quarter of 2012, its first quarterly loss as a publicly traded firm. However, this announcement has not affect the company’s share price, as investors remain focused on the forthcoming launch of Windows 8, which will make or break the firm’s fortunes. Windows 8 will feature a new look that will show applications in a mosaic of tiles and boast new technology that will enable the operating system to work on touch-controlled tablet computers, as well as its traditional stronghold on desktop and laptop computers. And in conjunction with Windows 8, Microsoft  is planning to release its own tablet, the Surface.

Two Beautiful Twin Sisters Share The Same Husband

It has been said that twins share almost everything but sharing a husband may seem unimaginable. But Zambia’s Livingstone-based twin sisters Gracious and Grace are happily married to a man they gave conditions to, they said “take all or none. The Tswana, Botswana twins are married to 25-year-old Kays Kaundula, who lives in Livingstone Island in Zambia. Kaundula, his wives Grace and Gracious and his three daughters from the two twin sisters show off their family and lifestyles.

Kaundula runs his own motor vehicle mechanical workshop in Livingstone Island’s residential area and shares a house with his wives. Kaundula however was later to discover that the sisters shared a cell phone and that in his conversations he proposed love to both sisters and both accepted.
A visit to plot 140, the residence of Kaundula, was met with a sweet greeting of small twin girls, who are Kaundula’s four-year-old daughters from Gracious. Gracious and Grace seem happily married and Gracious even says when her daughters grow up and decide to get married, she would want them to get married to one man. “I want them to be together just like us. This is what we set for ourselves as we grew up and we are happy that we have achieved what is good for us and our children,”she says.

Asked what they would do if Kaundula decided to get another wife since he was already in a polygamous status, the two sisters at the same time reply, “we will divorce him.”

Baby Language things!

I am gradually becoming an expert at interpreting what our 2 year old is saying at a given point in time. I actually dance and scream in delight when I get the real meaning of a word. Who would blame me, you should try speaking with her on the phone to understand where I am coming from. For those who will be privileged to interract with her, especially for her big aunties whom she will be spending some couple of weeks with while I catch up on some beauty routine and massages (we have already agreed that I will call within 10mins after leaving her, so let's not go into that aspect). I have taken the liberty to interprete some of her baby talks, well she kinda mixes both english and french so I have made a list of the most common words. Here goes:

Terror and tragedy mark 'Batman,' on screen and off

With a fixation on random violence, Gotham City dysfunction and the death of a star, the "Batman" movies have long been consumed with tragedy and terror. Now an unfathomable horror is forever linked to the series.
After the deadly shooting rampage at an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater where hundreds had gathered to see the area premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises," it's hard not to wonder whether the gunman was in any way inspired by the characters or chaos that are the hallmark of the lucrative movie series.

My sexy new laptop........change management issues

My laptop's hard drive was threatening to crash a while ago and in a bid to replace it before it  betrayed me and gave me a massive heartache (because that is when I will remember my favourite documents). I decided to purchase a new one and at the same time keep up with new technology - which laptop do you think I bought - You guessed right, I purchased a Macbook Air - little did I know it was a whole new story entirely.

Of course I love the sleekness and the overall feel of using a mac but no one told me I was going to have a hard time getting a hang of the system. I was still dealing with the issues of using a french keyboard and getting frustrated that I cannot type away without my work looking like that of my 2year old playing with my system and here comes a nice cute lil buddy where my control keys are for something I am yet to understand.

Who takes a baby to school - Part 2

I took a little break to complete my master's thesis.

This is the concluding part of my initial post - Who takes a baby to school.
Living and schooling with my daughter in France was very challenging and interesting. I learnt a lot of patience as days rolled by. Some days it was pure fun, some days I freaked out and wondered if I made the right decision by bringing her with me . Some days were so stressful, the sleepless nights, the missed nightlife (seriously?)....

But I am generally happy that I didn't miss out on her growing up days. The first words, the growing of the molars, the first nursery rhymes etc. Let me recount some of the very interesting and unforgetable times-

Investment in Batman pays off 30 years later

More than 30 years ago, Michael Uslan took a gamble. A self-proclaimed comic book fanboy who first identified with Batman as an 8-year-old boy, Uslan, one of the executive producers of The Dark Knight Rises, decided to bet everything on his passion.
Teaming up with a partner and wrangling up some investment capital, he bought the film rights to the Batman franchise from DC comics in 1979. Uslan, who had worked as a comic book artist while still in college and later as a production attorney at the then-bustling United Artists film studio, had the vision of creating a more serious comic book film with a human story.

Today, with the most successful Batman reboot ever about to release the last movie in a trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan, Uslan’s investment has turned out a considerable return. While he would not discuss his personal financial stake in an interview with FORBES at Comic Con 2012, Uslan says he feels vindicated that a 30-year bet has resulted in a trilogy that has already grossed $1.3 billion worldwide.

French Pesident promises to fight Industrial Layoffs

Francois Hollande, the French president, has pledged on the country's national day to fight industrial layoffs and clean up French politics.
The French leader attended the Bastille Day celebrations on Saturday watching troops parade down the Champs Elysees in Paris as jets streamed the national colours overhead.
The Socialist leader's first national day since winning office in May was overshadowed by outcry at mass job cuts announced by carmaker Peugeot and a scandal over his private life threatening to undermine his image as "Mr Normal".
Reviving the tradition of a July 14 television interview which was scrapped by his predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy, Hollande said France had to make an "effort" to restore its public finances but ruled out the kind of painful austerity measures driving protests in Spain and Italy.

"My mission is to help France recover and give it a future," Hollande said in the interview. "Jobs are my priority."

Hurricane Fabio - not a threat to Land

Early on July 12, a well-defined area of low pressure south of Mexico gained enough organization to be declared as Tropical Depression Six-E. Just hours after formation, the sustained winds exceeded 38 miles per hour, and organization became sufficient enough for the depression to be upgraded to Tropical Storm Fabio, the sixth named storm of the season. During the afternoon hours of July 13, Fabio intensified into a Category 1 hurricane, with sustained winds of 80 mph. Later that night, Fabio continued to intensify, and became a strong Category 1 with 90 mph sustained winds.

Forecasters say Hurricane Fabio is maintaining its strength over the Pacific but will not threaten land.
The National Weather Service in Miami says Fabio has maximum sustained winds of 90 mph (145 kph) and is about 540 miles (869 kilometres) south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California. It is moving west-northwest at 10 mph (16 kph) and is expected to stay on this course, reports The Associated Press.
Fabio is still a Category 1 hurricane and is the season's fifth hurricane. It is expected to start weakening late Saturday or early Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Emilia, farther out in the Pacific, is moving westward and is expected to continue weakening.
Once a hurricane, Emilia now has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (80 kph) and is 1485 miles (2390 kilometres) west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California. It is moving west at 15 mph (24 kph).

Wonders music perform to human body - Nigerian Punch

Are you a Music freak? This is a piece of good news for you. Just know that anytime you listen to music, it causes your brain to release dopamine, which is a feel-good chemical. As a matter of fact, a research has shown that people love music for much the same reason they’re drawn to sex, drugs, gambling and delicious food! Not just that, the study has it that whenever you listen to tunes that move you, your brain releases dopamine, a chemical also involved in both motivation and addiction.
Interestingly, music has a profound effect on your mind and body. Some medical practitioners have deduced music as therapy for cancer patients. Also, it is said to help with pain management- helps ward off depression, promotes movement, calms patients, and eases muscle tension.

This is another fact that would interest you: Research has shown that music has a strong beat that stimulates your brain waves, which also affects your breathing and heart rate. Simply put, slower music brings slower breathing, and a slower heart rate brings an activation of the relaxation response. In other words, music can help counteract or prevent the damaging effects of chronic stress and can bring a more positive state of mind, helping to keep depression and anxiety at bay. You suffer high blood pressure? Try listening to some music; it has been discovered to lower blood pressure and boost immunity.

French National Day Parade

Today, 14th July is the National day in France. It is formally called La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) and commonly Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July).
It commemorates anniversary of the Fête de la Fédération which first held on 14 July 1790 - a huge feast to celebrate the uprising of the short-lived constitutional monarchy in France and what people considered the happy conclusion of the French Revolution. It also represents the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789.  The storming of the Bastille fortress-prison was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation and of the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy which preceded the First Republic, during the French Revolution. The military parade which is the oldest and largest in Europe is held every year on the 14 July on avenue Champs-Élysées in Paris. I was privileged to watch the 2012 parade....

The parade featured 66 aircrafts, 4,950 personnel, 16 dogs, 241 horses, 450 vehicles including 82 motorcycles and 32 helicopters. It was a show to behold!

Homes of the future

According to Forbes, the following are prototypes for future homes. Advanced technology in action!!!

Tornado-Proof Home

Ted Givens, an architect with Hong Kong's 10Design created this prototype for a tornado-safe home. Hydraulic levers pull the Kevlar-coated house into the ground when high-velocity winds pass by. The high-tech structure's roof then locks so water and wind can't enter. Once the weather clears, the house unfolds and residents resume normal life.

AFCS Ibadan - Jewels in the Jungle

Those who make great impacts in our lives can never be forgotten. It seems just like yesterday that I graduated from my Alma mater, Air Force Comprehensive School, Iyana Offa Ibadan. I remember a little bit about our Valecdictory service with Flight Commander B M Ojebola in 1999. His speech to us was very touching. Even if I cannot recollect most of it, he gave us a manuscript which I read over and over. There was a part I have not forgotten till now.......

'You are now the sailor of your life's ship
The pilot of your own flight in life
You cannot afford to sink or crash.....'

Those words have stayed with me for a long time....I forgot them for a while but they crept into my thoughts today. I remember reading that note over and over again, especially when I needed to be motivated. At the time we did not appreciate his approach much but years later, I look back with a smile and say a silent thank you to him for his disciplinary skills.

Below is one of the lovely chants that he introduced to us.........

DANA PLANE CRASH: How Captain battled with failed engines mid-air – Report Nigerian Vanguard

Preliminary report on the  Dana plane that crashed on  3rd June 2012 at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos released yesterday by the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, said that the Captain tried starting the failed two engines mid-air when the engines packed up and after several failed attempt  ‘’the Capt informed the  Flight Officer, FO, “we just lost everything, we lost an engine. I lost both engines”.
This is coming  as the report said the crash was not caused by contaminated fuel. The plane, a Boeing MD-83, with registration no 5N-RAM on a domestic scheduled commercial flight, operated by Dana Airlines Limited as flight 992 (DAN 992), crashed into a densely populated area during a forced landing following a total loss of power in both engines while on approach to Muhammed Murtala Airport (LOS), Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the report, ‘’the airplane was on the fourth flight segment of the day, consisting of two round-trips between Lagos and Abuja. The accident occurred during the return leg of the second trip. DAN 992 was on final approach for runway 18R at LOS when the crew reported the total loss of power.
‘’According to interviews, the flight arrived in ABV as Dana Air flight 993 about 1350. According to Dana Air ground personnel, routine turn-around activities occurred, including refueling of the airplane. DAN 992 initiated engine startup at 1436, taxied to the runway and was later airborne at 1458 after the flight had reported that it had a fuel endurance of 3.5 hours.
“Shortly after takeoff, DAN 992 reported 1545 as the estimated time of arrival at LOS as the flight climbed to a cruise altitude of 26,000 ft. DAN0992 made contact with Lagos Area Control Center at 1518 hours.  ‘’According to the report, the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) retained about 31 minutes of the flight and starts about 1515 at which time the captain and first officer were in a discussion of a non-normal condition regarding the correlation between the engine throttle setting and an engine power indication.
“However, they did not voice concerns then that the condition would affect the continuation of the flight. The flight crew continued to monitor the condition and became increasingly concerned as the flight transition through the initial descent from cruise altitude at 1522 and the subsequent approach phase.
‘’DAN 992 reported passing through 18,100 and 7,700 ft, respectively, at 1530 and 1540 hours. After receiving a series of heading and altitude assignments from the controller, DAN 992 was issued the final heading to intercept the final approach course for runway 18R.

I know Jenifa has made it cool to be razz but honestly, when I start hearing news like a reduction in JAMB cut off marks because of a general poor performance. I get really worried for the future. I remember getting penalized in exams for not having a clear distinction between my letter M and W and my commandant made me write each letter 500times. What about spelling competitions? The pride in knowing how to spell very confusing words! Mayb insted of 4getn al our english lessons, we can ginger 1 of dis innovative electronics coy's to gve us an application/mobile phone dt transforms wat we wanna say into typed words. After all, we r in d digital age. Let's not forget all dose days we slaved hard learning with brighter grammar and reading books to improve our spoken and written english? Why are we trying to give that up? Why? Tell me why please

Quote of the day

John Stuart Mill
"There are many truths of which the full meaning cannot be realized until personal experience has brought it home."

Who takes a baby to school! (Part 1)

For the mums out there, remember how sometimes you get all worked up with the stress of motherhood and wish someone will come and relieve you for some minutes.  Luckily, your prayer is answered and your sister comes calling to take the kids for an ice cream. 20minutes later, you pick up the phone and ask where they are and when they are returning....hehehehehehe

That was just a little intro...but that was how I initially felt when I got my admission to study in France. I thought I could use the break, dash for my studies and return to my mummy duties. Little did I know that no one takes a break from motherhood. The first week was a breeze, I barely knew what was happening because we were moving around a lot, discovering new places and carrying all sort of luggages, getting lost and finding our ways...and I remembered thinking, thank God my daughter is not here to share in this stress.....

Then we settled down...

Can spending less time sitting down add years to life?

Limiting the time we spend sitting to just three hours a day could add an extra two years to our life expectancy, scientists calculate. Similarly, if we cut daily TV viewing down to two hours we could add on 1.4 years, they say in a report for the online journal BMJ Open.
But experts say the US estimates, which are based on five separate population studies, are too unreliable to predict personal risk. Plus the targets are unfeasible.

Prof David Spiegelhalter, an expert in risk calculations at the University of Cambridge, said: "This is a study of populations, and does not tell you personally what the effect of getting off the sofa might be.
"It seems plausible that if future generations moved around a bit more, then they might live longer on average.
"But very few of us currently spend less than three hours sitting each day, and so this seems a very optimistic target."
Sitting comfortably?

Oops!!! Samuel ETO'O's Aston Martin One-77 failed to start in Paris!!!

This must have been embarrassing!!! While in Paris, Samuel's 1.4 million dollars Aston Martin One-77 refused to start. And because it was raining, they had to tape over the open window with plastic sheets. I am no longer beefing my car manufacturer!

Mobile ads can hijack your phone and steal your contacts

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Those pesky pop up ads from the '90s are back, but this time they're holding your smartphone hostage. Tens of thousands of smartphone apps are running ads from rogue advertising networks that change smartphone settings and take contact information without permission, according to a new study released Monday.

Aggressive ad networks can disguise ads as text message notifications or app icons, and sometimes change browser settings and bookmarks. Often, the ads will upload your contacts list to the ad network's servers -- information the ad network can then sell to marketers
Sounds scary? It's not a giant problem yet, but it's a growing one. As many as 5% of free mobile apps use an "aggressive" ad network to make money, according to Lookout, a San Francisco-based mobile security company.

Quote of the day

Mark Twain

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didnt do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

I believe in Miracles

Even if I am yet to witness events such as seeing the lame walk or the blind seeing, the little events that happen around me are still enough to make me believe in miracles. Is it the joy I feel when I am very broke and I happen to wear a particular cloth in which I had forgotten some very cool cash or the days I decide to shame the devil and the spirit of greed and give out the little I have to someone whom I think needs it more than I do and thereafter receive money from someone or in a way I least expect. Okies, I know...life isnt all about money....it is the root of all evil.....my bad!

But when I say I believe in miracles, I am looking beyond monetary gains....I am talking about divine intervention in the way you least expect. Life is really not fair....that has been established a long time ago but have you ever wondered why when you slave or sweat so hard for somethings sometimes, you may not get them but when you really do not care and just trust in the Almighty and go about life in an easy way.....things just get done. I will relate this to the story of my scholarship for my studies in France. I still look back at the whole event and either marvel or pinch myself if it is all real or just a dream.

Quote of the day

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "Woo hoo! What a ride!"

THEWILL - Expanding the National Conversation - If George Egbuchulam Had Died

LAGOS, July 07, (THEWILL) - It was an unsolicited intrusion. I was myself taken out by illness when a friend’s message came in, explaining that George Egbuchulam had been in and out of hospital for months and the doctor eventually pronounced a N2.5million kidney transplant plus an over-N3m post-surgery maintenance the ultimate solution to his health misery. George had been in pains, tenaciously hanging on to life via a dialysis regime at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, which is anything but cheap to run itself. Knowing what ordinary ‘malaria’ was doing to me at the moment, I could sense — and truly, feel — George’s agony.

As Chinyere Chimodo — his friend who had spent more of her recent time on his matter than on hers — confirmed, George’s parents could not afford N6m. I knew it myself. I knew his parents could not even afford the dialysis. I long had knowledge of his humble background. I had it the way I wouldn’t have wished, though.

Some six years ago at the University of Ibadan, George Egbuchulam was a name on the list of fresh students applying for membership of the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS) Press. And when the name was called in, the panel was astounded to find sauntering in, a young man donning a vanilla vest on a bland pair of jeans and slippers. Was this all he could wear to a formal interview to join the press? Members of the panel unanimously misconstrued him for an unruly jambite who should be taught the rudiments of formal dressing. It was an embarrassed George who left the interview room, fighting frenetically to hold onrushing tears and claiming assuredly that he only wore what he had. But did the nasty encounter stop him from joining the press? No! (When in subsequent weeks and months, I kept on seeing George in variants of his vest-and-jeans outfit, I silently asked God for forgiveness; and other members of that panel did, too, I hope.)

Relationship building - Random thoughts!

People come into our lives for different reasons.....some because we let them, others because they want to be (yea right) and some we absolutely have no say in the matter. (lol). This write up is however about our built relationships - the ones we can choose and have chosen! So apart from our immediate family members- father, mother, siblings and other extended members. Do you actually look back to how initially we were strangers whom circumstances brought together (school, jobs, religious activities, mogbo mo branch things, commercial activities, etc) then we became acquaintances - our daily lives may have been intertwined and before we knew it we became very good friends or even lovers (winks)

Quote of the day

Carl Holmes

"The older we get the more we realize that service to others is the only way to stay happy. If we do nothing to benefit others, we will do nothing to benefit ourselves."
