A survey by an Educational Group in Nigeria, Aqua for All Foundation said its research indicates 8 out of 10 Nigerians are unable to swim, Ascology News gathered.
The survey, carried out in 20 Nigerian states found 80% of respondents saying they don't know how to swim while 71% have never attempted swimming.
The report although indicated that 63% of those from the riverine areas, mostly from Southern Nigeria can swim, most respondents say they are concerned about water safety and cited general safety measures as a discouraging factor why they either do not or cannot swim.
The Aqua for All Foundation says it hope to educate Nigerians on the importance of swimming and the overall education of Nigerians on water safety.

I'm surprised it's not more than 80%. I'm not entirely sure why the number is so high but I will definitely point to the general lifestyle that is void of exercising/fitness training/sports as a leisure activity; swimming falls in this category so it AAF "hopes to educate Nigerians on the importance of swimming...", they better start with enlightening them about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle with great emphasis on WORKING OUT.
